2010 Gerry Davis Sports Clinic

On September 10-12, Delaware Umpires Association held their second umpires clinic with instructors from Gerry Davis Sports. Twenty-seven umpires attended the clinic, gaining valuable training from the Gerry Davis staff. The instructors, led by Scott Higgins, talked about game management, proper positioning for calls, and dealing with high-pressure game situations. Video clips of major league and college games were shown as examples. On Saturday, Higgins, along with Joe Burleson, Bill Speck and Clint Fagan led the umpires in drills to gain practical experience on the field. They covered many of the mechanics and rotations used in both the two-umpire system and the three-umpire system, giving helpful instruction along the way. Umpires also practiced tracking and calling pitches in the batting cage. Due to inclement weather on Sunday, the clinic finished up with indoor instruction and discussion, as the instructors fielded questions from the group. The instructors also provided several items as raffle prizes, with all proceeds from the raffle going to Umps Care Charities. See the gallery for pictures of this year’s clinic. Delaware Umpires Association thanks Scott Higgins, Joe Burleson, Bill Speck, Clint Fagan and Gerry Davis Sports for coming to Delaware and presenting this clinic for our umpires. Great job, guys!
