Preseason Training a Big Success

Our new Umpire Development Team has been working hard this winter, providing pre-season training for new and veteran umpires alike. Beginning in early January, they have been teaching rules and umpire mechanics in a classroom setting. In mid-February and again in early March, they demonstrated on-field techniques during our annual baseball and softball clinics held at Diamond Dreams in Delmar. Several umpires have commented that they have learned a lot from this training and plan to use that knowledge on the field this season. President Greg Elkins said, "These guys have been doing an excellent job. This training will help our umpires improve their skills and that will make our association stronger. We all appreciate the training these guys have provided." Members of the Umpire Development Team are: Tom Disharoon, Gus Rehnstrom, Bill Bell, Duane Hammond, Tony DeFazio, Lew Friday, Steve Buchly, Steve Tull and Mike Luongo. Dave Moyer helped with the training at the softball clinic. Great work, gentlemen!
